Note:  Our daughter, Stephanie, transplanted the Black-Eyed Susans from another part of our yard and they really took off.

Male, American Gold Finch, picking seeds from a Cone Plant

Male Gold Finch picking seeds from a Cone Plant_edited-1_wm

This handsome little fella was very busy a few mornings ago. He was moving from plant to plant and I was lucky to catch him before he moved again.  Actually, it seems a bit early for Finches to be feeding on Cone Plants.  We generally don’t see them until the fall.  But, this plant got his attention.

Bumlebee on a Cone Plant

This young bumblebee was busy gathering nectar a few days ago.  I’ve found, over the years, if you don’t disturb them while they gather, bumblebees just go about their business allowing you to get quite close – quietly.
