A heads up on, “Finches.”

I noticed earlier today, both male and female Finches are beginning to feed on Cone Plant seeds. “They love the Seeds.”   So, if you live in the Midwest, and love to shoot Finches, get your camera ready.  They really are a great subject and usually spend time on the plants. They are very cautious, however, so the best way to capture them is to be sitting somewhat near the plants  –  not to close –  so they’ll get use to your presence and start feeding.  I’ve got a 75-300 zoom that works well in these situations. I also have a Point and Shoot that takes excellent images.  Whatever you’ve got that works well for you will do the job.

White Cone Flowers

image

These beautiful cone flowers were in full bloom a few weeks ago.  The orange tops have now gone dark – a kind of dark brown that will eventually turn solid black.  Then the American Gold Finch population will begin to show up for the yearly feast.  Every year it’s the same.
