Male, American Gold Finch, picking seeds from a Cone Plant

Male Gold Finch picking seeds from a Cone Plant_edited-1_wm

This handsome little fella was very busy a few mornings ago. He was moving from plant to plant and I was lucky to catch him before he moved again.  Actually, it seems a bit early for Finches to be feeding on Cone Plants.  We generally don’t see them until the fall.  But, this plant got his attention.

Young Praying Mantis on the Hunt

IMG_1420_wm

This youngster was hunting when I disturbed his concentration.  As you can see he’s looking at me.  I was so attracted to him I did not see the spider below.  Thankfully, the camera picked it up.  I did not stick around to see what happened next.

Muffin being groomed while eating

Muffin eating while being groomed_edited-1

This is my first attempt using a new device – Tablet –  anyway and also, I regret the image is not great but I had to take it from a distance and through our sliding glass door so I would not disturb Muffin. My wife, Jean, is grooming our feral cat, Muffin, who many of you know, while she eats.  She is also removing burrs from Muffins underbelly.  Muffin is perfectly content…even falls off to sleep once in a while as all this occurs.  She never makes any attempt to nip or bite … never has in ten years.  It took us two or three years to even get her to allow us to pet her.  Finally, when she has had enough for the session she darts off and sits.  Basically saying that’she enough for now.  There are other times when she will not allow Jean to pet her or even get to near to her. (the feral in her we suppose.)  I feed her each morning and pet her while she eats as well.  Thought you’d like this despite the poor image … at least you can see what’s taking place.
